”I would recommend the textile machine industry because it offers a unique technical challenge.”

Get to know Albin Ferm, Division Manager at Styrteknik, part of Kinna Automatic. With a family history in the industry, Albin represents a new generation combining tradition with modern machine technology. Here, he shares his journey into textile machinery and his thoughts on where the industry is heading.

Albin studied Production Technology at Sven Erikson High School in Borås. After graduating, he went straight into the industry.

– Directly after graduating, I started working at ACG Kinna Automatic, where I have continued to develop my skills through hands-on experience in the textile machine industry. Albin says.

Unlike many who find their way into the industry by chance, Albin’s connection to textiles runs deeper.

– I wouldn’t say that I actively chose to work in the textile machine industry but now working in the textile industry it feels given. I grew up in Fritsla, a place that has played a central role in Sweden’s textile industry for a long time, and I represent the third generation in my family to work within the textile industry. In that sense, textiles have always been around my everyday life.

Today, Albin is Division Manager at Styrteknik, a company acquired by Kinna Automatic in 2024 that develops and manufactures tufting machines for furniture and mattresses.

– My workdays vary a lot, which is one of the things I really enjoy about my job. A typical day can include customer visits and machine sales, as well as developing, assembling, and installing machines. I also travel to customers to carry out final installations on site. This means that I work actively throughout the entire process – from sales to final installation at the customer’s facility.

The company focuses on delivering tailored solutions:

– We offer customized machine solutions based on the customer’s specific needs and production requirements.

So why should someone consider a career in textile machinery?

– I would recommend the textile machine industry because it offers a unique technical challenge – working with a flexible and moving material like textiles requires precision, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Textiles will always be a fundamental part of everyday life, which means the industry will continue to exist and evolve. At the same time, there is a growing demand for more automated and efficient production, creating strong opportunities for innovation, development, and long-term careers in the industry, Albin says.

Looking ahead, Albin sees a highly technical future:

– I believe the future of textile machines will be driven by increased automation, smarter control systems, and higher demands on efficiency and flexibility. Working with textiles will continue to be technically challenging due to the nature of a moving and flexible material, which means innovation will remain essential. At the same time, growing demands for productivity, quality, and sustainable production will push the industry toward more advanced and automated solutions. This makes the textile machine industry both future-proof and highly exciting from a technical perspective.
